Thoughts on Healing with Attunement

by Martha Dean – Kansas City, MO

Having recently completed the five–month Attunement Practitioner's course taught by Chris Jorgensen, so ably assisted by Donna Jorgensen, I have been reflecting on various ideas presented in the class. Some ideas which frequently come to mind concern questions about healing and curing, and one such thought is that although an individual may not be cured of an illness or condition, Attunement is a wonderful tool for bringing about the healing of that illness or condition. If healing can occur without a cure, IÕve asked myself, how does healing differ from curing?

From what IÕve read of healing and curing (and experienced myself) the following are some of the differences between the two:

  • Curing focuses primarily on the physical body. Healing involves the whole person, the body, mind and capacities for spiritual expression.
  • Curing seeks to fix a targeted illiness.Healing promotes wellness by seeking to restore balance to a system.
  • Curing is usually seen as an isolated act. Healing is a process, an ongoing activity.
  • Curing seeks to eliminate pain. Healing seeks to transcend discomfort and pain.
  • Curing places responsibility for oneÕs well-being onto another. Healing involves taking responsibility for one's own well-being.
  • Curing sees death as unacceptable. Healing includes death as an acceptable outcome.

Thoughts like these have led me to consider further how Attunement promotes healing. The purpose of Attunement as stated by Uranda is “To establish alignment in the body and mind and heart with the natural life forces of being, alignment in the body with the forces of life from Source.” (“Attunement Meditation”, August 5, 1951.) Sharing Attunement means sharing the radiant life force contained in Being, in the Creator. The radiant life force contains the design for health. If illness is seen as a disruption in the body's energy system, Attunement with the Creator is the tool for realigning the energy system with the original, sacred blueprint for health. This leads me to wonder if an individual can be healthy in mind, heart and spirit and still have a physical illness. I believe so. Such an individual can live a full life as a whole person with a bodily illness. I believe, however, that such an individual is healed from his illness or condition even though the physical condition is not cured. Sharing an Attunement with the Creator is the place where authentic healing begins. Share an Attunement today!

Growing in Attunement

by Erin Rivers – Mission, KS

In trying to explain Attunement to a friend, it occurred to me how hard it is to put something so elemental into words. What is Attunement for me? It is the essence of everyday. It is how I hope to breathe in and breathe out. It is a way to open the channel of my soul to my higher power, to receive blessing, to engage in the sacred art of creation, to become one with Spirit.

I was introduced to Attunement by a friend who was recovering from chemotherapy and worried about the cancer she was purging from her body. She was so sure Attunement was a healing power, she talked me into checking it out. Originally I went because I had an old high school sports injury that bothered me from time to time. While my initial Attunement did help to alleviate some pain, it also introduced me to something quite a bit better, quite a bit larger.

After taking the Attunement Initiation and five-month course I have discovered that Attunement is not a practice, or even a philosophy. It is a way of living. I have noticed subtle, but significant changes in my life. I no longer worry the way I once did. Anxiety is not my constant companion. Stress is there, but no longer shares the front seat. I find more time for myself, my passions, and my relationships. I still have a long way to go, but I am enjoying the journey.

Part of what I do to help myself grow in Attunement and spirituality is to attend the monthly Attunement groups hosted by Chris and Donna Jorgensen through Heartland Attunement in Kansas City, Missouri. People from all over the Kansas City area converge for an hour and a half to share a short Attunement, a guided meditation that focuses on some positive aspect of spiritual growth, then a longer Attunement. At the end of the evening, we focus our attention together, sometimes toward a troubled region in the world, sometimes in support of a world figure, but always in a way that benefits our planet in some way. Because my profession is teaching, these evenings are a way for me to practice Attunement, both in giving and receiving. I enjoy the opportunity of sharing Attunement with a variety of people, and I love the relationships I am forging in this community. What I have found is that people who share Attunement are invariably some of the most wonderful people I have met.
