Being in the Now"Being in the now" is a rather popular concept these days. The benefi ts of "being present" have been articulated for centuries by the followers of Buddhism, and lately popularized by Eckhart Tolle. Carolyn Myss speaks of not being in the now as giving up oneีs power, which consequently (in her view) contributes to illness. Unity Magazine, published by the Unity School of Christianity, for years has featured a column called "God Moments". This column features stories about being open to experiences which call to mind oneีs spiritual expression. But how often are we so caught up in yesterday, tomorrow, and/or "I want..." to discern those moments? I used to wish that the Lord would give me some spectacular sign-maybe not "burning bush" big, but something that was special and undeniably for me alone. This of course was before I knew about the One Law and being responsible for my own creation. I had some awareness of the everyday gifts, but I felt a lack of gratitude because the gifts I noticed were "ordinary" and shared with many others. Then one day I awoke to an "aha" moment while walking my dog. There was a colorful sunset that evening. Usually I would have noticed and felt some level of appreciation for the cosmic artistry, but would also have felt "well, big deal, itีs the same for everyone else." But this time it struck me that this particular sunset was especially for me. Dozens of people were driving by, but few probably took the time to appreciate it. No one else was standing exactly where I stood, looking through my eyes. (You think you see things the same way as someone else? ั try going to a paint store and agreeing what color is off-white.) That same event was available to hundreds of thousands of people across the Midwest at that particular time, yet no one else experienced it exactly the same way I did. Over the years, that is what so many "God Moments" stories had in common ั the necessity of being present in the moment in order to recognize the gift, or as Martin Exeter wrote in Beyond Belief, "The only place that we can know the truth is here and now....The only time we have any contact with life is in the present moment." —CK
Attunement AntidoteI belong to a local book discussion group that meets the last Friday of the month. There is usually snack food and refreshments at these get-togethers. On Friday, May 27, a gentleman named Tom brought an electrical crock pot. He had it plugged into the wall and was heating tortillas in it. After several minutes, Tom picked the lid up off the crock pot with his left hand, and started to put his right hand in it to see how they were doing. Unfortunately, when he took the lid off, there was a rush of steam, and he badly burned the fingertips of his right hand. He immediately got a glass of ice water from the hostess and started soaking his fingers in that. Tom is a good friend. I was thinking I should have intervened and given an energy treatment as soon as he got burned. However, as it was a party, he was still talking to people, while holding his fingers in the ice water, no less. I therefore waited for things to die down. After about 20 minutes, they had. At that point, I sat down next to him and told him to let me see his hand. I then did an Attunement session on that hand, which was emitting a definite pain pattern of throb, throb, throb. I held my right hand above his right hand, and simply kept my hand over his until the throbbing balanced and dissipated. I remember Chris Jorgensen remarking that if you can get to a burn fast enough, and can interrupt the pain cycle and balance it, you can speed the healing process. That's what I did on Tom's hand. I balanced the pain cycle until it flat-lined. On Monday evening, May 30, I got a call from Tom. He said, "I want to thank you for what you did. I thought my fingers were going to be blistered and that I might have to go to the doctor. I also thought I might lose the nails on the right hand. But now there are not any blisters at all. In fact, you can hardly tell the difference between the right hand and the left." He also said, "I attribute at least some of that to the short session you gave me on Friday. When you were working on me, it felt like you were drawing (the pain) out. So thanks again." In addition to soaking his fingers in ice water and my Attunement work on him, Tom had put burn lotion on his hand when he went home. I think he believed my work had the strongest effect, though. Personally, I think so too. I believe the ice water and the lotion helped, but I doubt these things by themselves would have balanced the pain pattern. I told Tom that I was happy to have been of service. Overall, I had a sense of being in the right place at the right time, which is always a rewarding experience. —TW |
